Doors - Jared McCormick

Lesson 16 of 32 May 16, 2022

The class began by honoring the high school and college graduates of Linder Road Church, presenting each with a Bible or a reference work such as a concordance or dictionary. After the recognitions, the teacher introduced Osborne Dorsey, the 19th‑century African‑American inventor of the modern doorknob, using his invention as a tangible example of how everyday objects can reflect God’s provision and impact lives worldwide. The lesson then shifted to the biblical symbol of doors. The teacher explained that doors can signify protection, transition into new spaces, screening of visitors, and concealment of hidden things. Using Luke 13:22‑27, the class explored Jesus’ warning to "strive to enter through the narrow door" and the image of the master of the house shutting the door, emphasizing the importance of making intentional choices in following Christ. The central message encouraged graduates and all listeners to recognize the doors God places before them, to enter with purpose, and to trust in His guiding hand as they move forward into new chapters of life.

Luke 13:22-27

He went on his way through towns and villages, teaching and journeying toward Jerusalem. And someone said to him, Lord, will those who are saved be few? And he said to them, Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. When once the master of the house has risen and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, open to us. Then he will answer you, I do not know where you come from. Then you will begin to say, we ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets. But he will say, I tell you, I do not know where you come from. Depart from me, all you workers of evil.
