Accountable to Who_

Lesson 17 of 32 May 23, 2022

During the class, the teacher emphasized that accountability extends beyond civic freedoms into every facet of daily life, using examples such as team climbing, driving, and workplace relationships to illustrate that our actions inevitably affect others and carry consequences. He linked these worldly examples to the Christian calling, asserting that believers are uniquely accountable to God, who knows every thought and action before they are spoken, as described in Psalm 139. The lesson highlighted the biblical call for self‑examination, citing Paul’s exhortation in 2 Corinthians 13:5 and David’s heartfelt prayers in Psalm 139:1‑4 and 139:23‑24, urging the congregation to embrace vulnerability, teachability, availability, and honesty—the four "sisters" of accountability. The teacher warned against pride, referencing Proverbs 16:18, and encouraged believers to lean on one another as ropes that keep each climber secure, fostering a community where accountability leads to spiritual growth and mutual support.

Psalm 139:1-4

O Lord, thou dost search me and know me. Thou dost know when I sit down and when I rise up. Thou dost understand my thought from afar. Thou dost scrutinize my path and my lying down. And are intimately acquainted with all my ways.

Psalm 139:23-24

Search me, O God, and know my heart. Try me and know my anxious thoughts and see if there is any hurtful way in me and lead me into the everlasting way.
