Lesson 6 of 8 February 17, 2019

The class examined Genesis 45, focusing on Joseph’s dramatic reveal to his brothers. The teacher described how Joseph, now second in command of Egypt, told his brothers not to be angry because God had sent him ahead to preserve life during the coming famine. He recounted Joseph’s invitation for his family to settle in Goshen, the provision of wagons, and the emotional reunion with his brother Benjamin, emphasizing the themes of forgiveness and divine providence. Further discussion connected these events to personal experience, encouraging participants to consider how God may work through difficult circumstances for a greater purpose. The teacher highlighted the king’s happiness at the brothers’ arrival as evidence of Joseph’s respected status, and applied the narrative to modern relationships, urging believers to seek reconciliation and share God’s blessings with family. The lesson concluded with prayer and an invitation to apply the principles of trust, stewardship, and grace in everyday life.

Genesis 45:1-15

Joseph could not control himself in front of his servants any longer, so he cried out, have everyone leave. And you may recall, his servants, his staff, if you will, that are surrounding him, he tells them to leave. So just his brothers and he are left in that room. Joseph cried so loudly that the Egyptians heard him and the people in the king's palace heard about it. He said to his brothers, I am Joseph. Is my father alive? Still alive. But the brothers could not answer him because they were afraid of him.

Genesis 45:5-8

Don't be worried or angry with yourselves because you sold me here. And remember, he gives a list of what really took place. He comes to the realization that now don't be worried. God sent me here ahead of you to save people's lives. No food has grown on the land for two years now and there will be five more years without planting a harvest. So God sent me here ahead of you to make sure you have descendants left on earth and to keep you alive in an amazing way. So it was not you who sent me here but God. God has made me the highest officer of the king of Egypt.
