Sunday Evening Worship

Lesson 33 of 49 September 1, 2025

The teacher opened the session by describing a hypothetical, over‑busy individual whose life is dominated by endless tasks, emails, and obligations, leaving little room for spiritual nourishment. He connected this modern scenario to the biblical account of Martha and Mary, reading Luke 10:38‑42 and pointing out that while Martha was consumed by service, Mary chose the "good part" of sitting at Jesus' feet. The class emphasized that urgency often masquerades as importance, leading believers to run on spiritual fumes. Using the Eisenhower Matrix, the teacher illustrated how to differentiate between urgent and truly important matters, urging the congregation to prioritize time with Christ above relentless activity. He warned that serving without first refilling our souls results in burnout, and he encouraged intentional pauses for prayer and study. The central message was clear: authentic service and family leadership flow from a refreshed spirit, cultivated by choosing the better part—sitting at the feet of the Lord—amid life’s demands.

Luke 10:38-42

While they were traveling, he entered a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary who sat at the Lord's feet and was listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks. And she came up and asked, Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to serve alone? So tell her to give me a hand. Jesus answered her, Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has made the right choice, and it will not be taken away from her.
