Cleaning the Inside - May 31st Sunday Evening Sermon

Lesson 33 of 50 June 1, 2020

The class, titled “Cleaning the Inside,” began with a vivid illustration from Matthew 23, where Jesus rebukes the scribes and Pharisees for focusing on external appearances while their hearts were filled with hypocrisy. The teacher emphasized that, just as the religious leaders needed inner purification, today’s believers must also examine the condition of their souls, especially in a time when external symbols of worship are minimized. He then outlined the biblical process of inward cleansing: initial conversion as described in John 3:3‑8, the water‑and‑Spirit baptism highlighted in Acts 2:38, and the ongoing sanctification that Paul describes in Colossians 3:5. The message linked these steps to the Great Commission (Matt 28:19‑20; Mark 16:15‑16), urging believers to let their inner transformation propel them to share the gospel. The teacher warned against a “once saved, always saved” mindset and encouraged a continual putting‑off of the old self, stressing that true holiness comes from a heart set apart for God, not from outward religiosity alone.

Matthew 23:1-39

John 3:3-8

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”... Jesus answered, “Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.
