Jesus Better than Moses - Kevin Hahn - 2017 Lectureship

Lesson 11 of 22 October 15, 2017

The class opened with a personal anecdote that led into a discussion about how strong personal preferences can dominate our thoughts, from favorite athletes to beloved gadgets. Kevin Hahn then shifted focus to the biblical comparison of Moses and Jesus, emphasizing that the Jewish leaders in John 9 were clinging to Moses as their guide. He read John 9:22‑24, 28, showing how the healed man’s simple testimony—‘I was blind, now I see’—contrasted with the Pharisees’ insistence on the Mosaic tradition. Hahn warned that the same tendency to favor people or ideas over Christ appears today as “preacheritis,” where congregations follow a beloved pastor or author rather than the gospel. Through the lens of Hebrews 3 and a brief nod to 1 Corinthians, he illustrated that Christ is superior to every former revelation. The central message urged listeners to examine their loyalties, discard any preference that competes with Christ, and let the truth of the New Covenant shape their worship and relationships. The class concluded with a call to give glory to God alone, trusting that Jesus, not Moses or any human tradition, is the ultimate source of spiritual sight.

John 9:28

And they reviled him, saying, You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this fellow, we do not know where he is from.
