The Ultimate Goal

Lesson 2 of 5 July 17, 2023

During the July 16, 2023 class, Jeff Jenkins delivered a passionate talk on the Christian hope of heaven, centering on the promise that Jesus has already overcome the grave. He referenced Revelation 3:21 to illustrate that those who overcome, as Christ did, will dwell with Him eternally. Jeff then turned to the Book of Revelation, emphasizing why John was instructed in 1:11 and 1:19 to record the visions he saw, heard, and would see, and how the repeated phrase “I saw” (Greek: horror) in chapters 4 and 5 underscores the importance of understanding what is revealed. He illustrated the message with personal anecdotes, such as a phone call with his grandson, and historical analogies about doors opening in heaven for persecuted believers under Roman rule. Jeff’s central point was that the gospel offers an open door to eternal life, a reality that should thrill and motivate believers to live in expectation of the day when the dead are raised. The class left with a renewed confidence that death is not the end, but a transition to a promised new day with Christ.

Revelation 3:21

And to him that overcometh will I grant to sit down with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

Revelation 1:19

Write the things that thou sawest, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter.

Revelation 4:1

After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me, which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.
