We are All in This Together

Lesson 1 of 5 July 17, 2023

The class opened with warm greetings and announcements of recent baptisms, highlighting the joy of new members joining the body of Christ. Teacher Jeff Jenkins introduced the focus on grief, noting his extensive experience and the work of the Jenkins Institute in supporting ministers and congregations through loss. The session then turned to a study of Revelation chapter 1, emphasizing that this prophetic book was originally written to first‑century Christians suffering under brutal Roman rulers like Nero, offering them hope amid persecution. Using Revelation 1:1‑19 as a framework, the teacher explained the historical backdrop, John’s role as the beloved disciple, and the vivid description of Jesus as the “first and the last.” He highlighted the repeated divine command to “write what you see” as an invitation for believers today to record and share both present trials and future hope. The central message was that, just as early Christians found comfort in Revelation’s promises, modern believers can find solidarity and encouragement in one another’s grief, knowing they are "all in this together" under the unfailing reign of Christ.
