Dressed for Success

Lesson 3 of 12 October 29, 2017

The class began by opening the book of Zechariah and focusing on chapter three, where the prophet sees Joshua the high priest standing before the Lord in filthy garments while Satan accuses him. The teacher highlighted the Lord’s command to remove those dirty robes and clothe Joshua with pure vestments, emphasizing that God changes a person’s spiritual attire just as He promised to cleanse Israel. Drawing on Isaiah 64:6, the lesson described how, apart from Christ, we all appear filthy before God because of sin, and how repentance and Christ’s righteousness are the only means to receive clean, glorious clothing. Clint Davison then outlined three categories of spiritual clothing that believers may wear: the disgraceful garments of sin, the provisional robes of repentance, and the final, celebratory vestments granted through Christ. He challenged listeners to examine their own spiritual dress and to pursue the transformation that equips them for success in God’s eyes. The session concluded with practical applications, urging the congregation to seek interior holiness over exterior appearance, trusting that God is the ultimate tailor of our spiritual wardrobe.

Zechariah 3:4-5

And this is really where I want us to focus this morning. And the angel said to the said to those who are standing before him, remove the filthy garments from him. And to him, he said, behold, I have taken your iniquity away from you, and I will clothe you with pure vestments. And I said, let them put a clean turban on his head. So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him with garments.

Zechariah 3:1-3

Then he showed me Joshua, the high priest, standing before the angel of the Lord and Satan standing in his right hand to accuse him. And the Lord said to Satan, the Lord who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you. Is not this a brand plucked from the fire? Now, Joshua was standing before the angel clothed with filthy garments.
