The Superiority of Christ - by Keith Parker - Lectureship 2017

Lesson 1 of 22 October 13, 2017

The class opened with a call to turn to Hebrews chapter 1, where the writer of Hebrews declares that God has spoken to us in these last days through His Son, who is superior to the angels and the exact imprint of God's nature. The teacher explained that this introduction is a biblical “brag” about Jesus, emphasizing His title as Son, His deity, and His role as the ultimate revelation of God. Using the “I am” statements from the Gospel of John—such as the living bread (John 6:51), the light of the world (John 8:12), the one before Abraham (John 8:58), the resurrection and the life (John 11:25), the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6), and the true vine (John 15:1)—the teacher illustrated how Jesus continually identified Himself with divine authority. He emphasized that Jesus is both fully God and fully man, the God‑Man Emmanuel (Matthew 1:23), and that He is the voice of God speaking to us today. The lesson concluded with an encouragement for believers to live as winners, embracing Christ’s superiority in love, obedience, and daily living.

Hebrews 1:1-4

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers through the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, whom He hath appointed heir of all things, but whom also He made the worlds, who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high, being made so much better than the angels, as He hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
