Building a Bridge that Cares - Sunday AM Sermon

Lesson 2 of 9 June 23, 2019

In this class, the teacher opened with Psalm 118:24, urging the congregation to rejoice in each day the Lord has made, and then narrated David’s solitary experience in a desert cave, drawing on Psalm 142:4 to illustrate how even in deep loneliness, God remains a refuge. The lesson transitioned to a broader challenge: Christians must emulate God’s caring nature, as instructed in Ephesians 5:1, and actively build bridges of compassion to the community. The teacher highlighted the early church’s example from Acts 2:41‑42, where thousands were baptized, shared possessions, and practiced fellowship, demonstrating that a caring church is one that welcomes strangers, meets practical needs, and reflects Christ’s love. Practical applications were offered, urging believers to examine their attitudes toward the lost, the lonely, and those they find difficult, and to become ambassadors of Christ who care without reservation. The central message emphasized that caring is a divine mandate, not a optional extra, and that a church’s health is measured by its willingness to build caring bridges to its neighbors.

Psalm 142:4

I look to my right, and there is no one who regards me; I have no refuge; no one cares for my soul.

Ephesians 5:1

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.
