Better Help in Time of Need - by Byron Benitez - Lectureship 2017

Lesson 9 of 22 October 14, 2017

The class, led by Brother Byron Benitez, explored why Jesus is the "better help" in times of need, anchoring the discussion in Hebrews 4:14‑16 and Hebrews 13:5‑6. Byron highlighted that Jesus, having passed through the heavens, is a high priest who can empathize with our weaknesses, enabling believers to approach God’s throne with confidence to receive mercy and grace. He emphasized God’s promise to never abandon His people, encouraging bold reliance on the Lord as a personal helper. Supporting the main theme, Byron referenced the humility of Christ’s incarnation (Luke 2:7) and the divine nature of the Word (John 1:1), underscoring the immense distance Jesus crossed—from the highest heavens to a lowly manger—to assist humanity. He also recalled Philippians 2:5, illustrating Christ’s self‑emptying love. Through anecdotes and humor, he urged the congregation to live contentedly, free from covetousness, trusting that the Lord’s presence makes any human threat powerless. The lesson concluded with a call to apply these truths daily, relying on Jesus as the ultimate source of help.

Hebrews 4:14-16

See then that we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
