Bridge to the Future

Lesson 6 of 6 January 2, 2020

The teacher closed the year‑long “Bridge to God” series by shifting attention from past accomplishments to a forward‑looking vision for 2020. He reminded the congregation of the three bridge themes—relationship with God, outreach to the community, and strengthening family and congregational ties—grounded in the scriptural truths of Ecclesiastes 3:1 and Proverbs 29:18. He explained that God’s timing makes all seasons beautiful and that a clear, God‑given vision is essential for the church’s health, noting that without it people “perish" in the sense of moving backward. Through a playful frog riddle, he illustrated the difference between deciding to act and actually leaping, urging the church to become a “leap year” that makes decisive, faith‑driven moves. He described the Hebrew word for vision (hezhen) as an open revelation, a dream, and a mental picture, emphasizing that true vision originates from Scripture, not human ambition. The class concluded with a call for every member to seek God’s revelation, dream of a vibrant future, and mentally picture the church’s God‑centered destiny, committing to move forward together in 2020.

Ecclesiastes 3:1

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

Proverbs 29:18

Where there is no vision, the people perish, but happy is he who keeps the law.
