Psalm 103_1-5

Lesson 5 of 6 December 16, 2019

The class opened with the teacher inviting the congregation to focus on Psalm 103:1‑5, emphasizing the psalmist’s heartfelt call for the soul to praise God and to remember the many benefits He provides. He highlighted the plurality of the word "benefits," pointing out that God’s forgiveness, healing, redemption, and love extend far beyond material blessings. By linking these verses to key New Testament passages—Acts 2:38, 1 John 1:7, and Matthew 26:26‑28—the teacher illustrated how forgiveness is a continuous, present reality that covers past, present, and future sins. The lesson then shifted to contemporary and biblical narratives: a modern prodigal girl’s journey from despair to reconnection, and the familiar parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:20‑21). These stories underscored the themes of falling into a "pit" of sin and being rescued by a compassionate Father who offers forgiveness and restoration. The teacher concluded by encouraging participants to count their personal blessings, recognize their own "pits," and respond with repentance, baptism, and ongoing gratitude, trusting in God's faithful promise to cleanse and redeem. Throughout, the central message was clear: God’s benefits—including forgiveness, redemption, and everlasting love—are abundant and accessible to all who turn to Him, and believers are called to remember and praise Him each day.

Psalm 103:1-5

Oh my soul, praise the Lord; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Oh my soul, forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases. He redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion. He satisfies you with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
