Days of Remembrance

Lesson 26 of 52 July 7, 2025

During the “Days of Remembrance” class, the teacher connected national observances such as Independence Day and Memorial Day with biblical memorials, emphasizing that remembering helps guard against forgetting God’s promises. He explained that the bugle call known as TAPS originated in the Civil War under General Daniel Butterfield and later became a solemn signal for military funerals, symbolizing the ultimate sacrifice of soldiers. The lesson turned to Scripture, highlighting three divine memorials: the rainbow set after the Flood as a sign of God’s covenant (Genesis 9), the twelve stones erected after the Israelites crossed the Jordan River (Joshua 4) that served as a tangible reminder of God’s power, and the Passover lamb whose blood protected the Israelites in Egypt (Exodus 12). Each biblical example reinforced the principle that God calls His people to remember, honor, and give Him their very best. The teacher concluded by urging the congregation to apply these truths in personal and family worship, making remembrance a living practice in the life of every believer.

Genesis 9:12-17

I have set my rainbow in the clouds. It will be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
