Growing through conflict

Lesson 9 of 11 December 11, 2022

The class began with updates on community outreach, then transitioned to a biblical examination of conflict. Clint Davison explained that personal biases often cause us to fixate on others' shortcomings, using the concept of "bottom‑mind‑hof syndrome" as a modern parallel to scriptural warnings. Moving from personal to relational conflict, he traced the theme through David’s angry moments with Nabal and Joseph’s responses to adversity, illustrating how internal struggles can spill over into relationships. Davison then presented Jesus’ teaching on conflict resolution, reading Matthew 7:3‑5 and the steps in Matthew 18:15‑17. He emphasized the importance of self‑examination, private conversation, involving witnesses, and, if necessary, bringing the matter to the church—always aiming to glorify God and emulate Christ’s peacemaking. The class concluded with practical applications, encouraging participants to address hurts directly, pursue humility, and nurture a spirit of reconciliation in their daily lives.
