The Bread of Heaven - Daniel Roberts - Lectureship 2025

Lesson 6 of 13 October 18, 2025

The class focuses on Jesus' dialogue in John 6, where He confronts a crowd seeking Him for physical sustenance rather than spiritual transformation. The teacher emphasizes that Jesus' purpose is not to provide temporary relief but to offer eternal life through belief in Him. The lesson draws parallels between the crowd's motives and modern-day Christians who may approach faith with self-serving intentions. By examining the passage, the teacher underscores the contrast between perishable food (like the manna in the wilderness) and the 'true bread from heaven' Jesus offers, which satisfies the soul. The discussion also highlights Jesus' rejection of transactional relationships, urging believers to pursue Him for who He is, not what He can provide. Personal anecdotes about parenting, fast food, and church potlucks serve as relatable context for the deeper spiritual message.

John 6:25-40

When they found him on the other side of the sea, that's Jesus. They said to him, Rabbi, when did you come here? And Jesus answered them, Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not work for food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal... For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world... I am the bread of life. And whoever comes to me shall not grow hungry, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.
