Study of Ecclesiastes - Sunday Morning Class

Lesson 5 of 7 December 2, 2018

This Bible study delved into Ecclesiastes 4:8, highlighting the dangers of excessive focus on wealth and the importance of contentment. The teacher used the example of the rich young ruler (Matthew 19:16-24) to illustrate the spiritual cost of prioritizing material possessions over eternal values. The lesson also emphasized the role of companionship in overcoming life’s challenges, referencing Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 and the principle from Acts 20:35 about the blessing of giving. The key takeaways centered on rejecting self-reliance, cultivating supportive relationships, and aligning finances with spiritual priorities.

Ecclesiastes 4:8

I saw that all labor and every skill which is done is the result of rivalry between a man and his neighbor. This, too, is vanity and striving after wind.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion, but woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up. Furthermore, if two lie down together, they keep warm. But how can one be warm alone? And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart.
