Like Minded

Lesson 33 of 53 August 23, 2021

Joe Wells taught on the importance of unity and like-mindedness in the body of Christ, using the book of Philippians as his primary text. He introduced the lesson by asking the congregation to consider what single component would make relationships easier—whether in marriages, families, congregations, or workplaces. Wells explained that the Philippian church, despite being a strong congregation, was struggling with relational discord and needed guidance on how to function together. The letter to the Philippians, though only four chapters long, directly addresses this struggle and points to a biblical solution for restored unity. Wells emphasized that while cultural circumstances change around us, God's calling upon His people remains constant. He challenged believers to be more than Christians in name only, but to demonstrate their faith through action and deed. The core message centered on Paul's teaching in Philippians 2, where the apostle provides the framework for how believers should relate to one another with the mind of Christ, moving beyond personal preferences and selfish ambition toward genuine unity grounded in Christ's example of humility and service.

Philippians 2:1-4

Therefore, if there is any encouragement in Christ, any incentive of love, any sharing in the Spirit, any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being joined in spirit, acting in harmony; doing nothing out of selfish ambition or empty conceit, but in humility considering others better than yourselves.
