Establishing a Church Growth Climate

Lesson 6 of 51 February 19, 2024

The class opened with a warm greeting and several announcements about upcoming events, such as an evangelism seminar, a congregational prayer breakfast, a food drive for the Mountain States children’s home, and a community giveaway. The primary teaching centered on the concept of maintaining a climate conducive to church growth. Using everyday examples like oranges needing a warm climate and trout thriving in water, the teacher illustrated how the right conditions are essential for growth. He connected this principle to Jesus’ Parable of the Sower, explaining how different soils represent varying spiritual environments, and emphasized that a thriving congregation requires fertile, welcoming soil. The teacher identified four conditions essential for growth, highlighting joy as the foremost. He cited Philippians 4:4—“Rejoice in the Lord always”—as a biblical mandate, arguing that a joyful spirit attracts people and reflects the heart of the church. He warned against a gloomy or negative demeanor, noting its deterrent effect. Concluding, he encouraged the congregation to actively cultivate joy and a positive atmosphere, reinforcing the theme “soul to soul” and urging members to participate in the upcoming outreach initiatives. The central message was clear: a church’s growth depends on a spiritual climate marked by joy, hospitality, and intentional care, mirroring the principles Jesus taught and the apostle Paul commanded.

Philippians 4:4

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say, rejoice.
