Facing the Giants -Truth

Lesson 5 of 6 February 2, 2026

During the class, the teacher introduced the series theme “Facing the Giants” and identified truth as a foundational giant confronting every believer. He recounted the biblical scene where Jesus stood before Pontius Pilate in John 18, noting Pilate’s skeptical question, “What is truth?” and explained how that question reflects today’s cultural relativism. The teacher described how modern culture often reduces truth to personal preference, “live your truth,” or following feelings, leading many to reject the existence of an absolute, objective truth. He then contrasted objective truth—solid, communicable, and consistent with reality—with subjective truth, which changes with personal opinion and cultural trends. By defining culture as a system of shared values and norms, he warned that when a culture embraces relativism, it undermines the biblical standard of truth. Throughout, he urged the congregation to cling to God’s unchanging Word, reminding them that truth is not a matter of personal feeling but a divine reality that guides and protects believers as they confront every giant in life.

John 18:38

Pilate said to him, 'What is truth?' After he had said this, he went out to the Jews again and told them, 'I find in him no guilt.'
