One Another

Lesson 4 of 12 May 6, 2024

The class opened with a prayer and a brief weather anecdote before the teacher guided the congregation through the series of "one‑another" commands found throughout the New Testament. He reminded the group that there are roughly 42‑47 distinct passages, all centered on love—especially the self‑sacrificial love Jesus described in John 13:34‑35. By connecting this love to the communal identity described in 1 Corinthians 12 and Romans 12, the teacher explained that every member of the body of Christ is essential and called to serve. The discussion then shifted to the role of admonishment, using Colossians 3:16 and its parallel in Ephesians 5:16 as key texts. The teacher described admonishment as both corrective and encouraging, citing Paul’s exhortations to Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:2, 5. He illustrated how music functions as a form of admonishment, pointing to Psalm 100:1‑2 and contemporary worship lyrics that urge believers to rescue the perishing and care for the dying. The central message was that love motivates believers to teach, correct, and uplift one another, fostering unity and spiritual growth within the church body.

John 13:34-35

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this the world will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

Colossians 3:16

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with gratitude in your hearts to God.

Ephesians 5:16

Be careful then how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of the opportunity, because the days are evil.
