Lesson 3 Ladies Retreat - Kelli Hughett

Lesson 3 of 4 September 18, 2022

The class began with a heartfelt tribute to worship, emphasizing how communal singing has been a transformative force in the teacher’s life. Kelli then shifted to the challenging theme of discerning God’s will, explaining that without clear direction we cannot become the women God intends us to be. She illustrated this point by recounting the biblical account of Gideon’s fleece from Judges chapter 6, highlighting Gideon’s initial doubt, his request for a sign, and how God’s miraculous response confirmed His promise. The story served as a biblical parallel to modern believers seeking tangible signs, much like Thomas’s demand for physical proof of Jesus’s resurrection in John 20. Kelli shared a personal narrative about her family’s contemplated move from Windsor to a quieter, rural setting, describing the emotional tug‑of‑war between family ties and a sensed divine prompting. She expressed the yearning for a “fleece” in her own life—a clear sign of God’s direction—while acknowledging the difficulty of leaving behind loved ones. The class concluded with encouragement to continually pray for guidance, trust God’s timing, and remain open to the transformative work of the Holy Spirit as believers pursue God’s will.

Judges 6:36-40

Then Gideon said to God, "If you will indeed deliver Israel by my hand, then I will put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said." And it was so: God came at night and the fleece was soaked with dew, but the ground was dry. Then Gideon said to God, "Do not be angry, my lord, that I may speak just once more. Let me make a second test with the fleece. Let it be dry on the fleece and the ground soaked with dew." And God did so that night: the fleece was dry, but the ground was soaked with dew.
