Sunday Morning Class

Lesson 10 of 10 July 1, 2019

During the final session on the topic of death, Charles White guided the class through a comprehensive review of biblical teachings about humanity’s ultimate destiny. He first clarified the meanings of "eternal destruction" and "eternal punishment" as rendered in various translations, then highlighted Jesus' warnings about Gehenna found in the Gospels and Revelation, underscoring that the horror of hell is the complete absence of God’s presence. He explained that God’s holiness, Christ’s sacrificial blood, and divine justice prevent any cruelty in condemning the unrepentant, while also affirming God’s desire that all be saved. The teacher focused on 1 Peter 1:3‑9, describing it as a vivid declaration of a living hope through Christ’s resurrection, encouraging believers to rejoice despite trials. The class moved on to vivid descriptions of heaven—streets of gold, the river of life, and eternal worship before the Lamb—contrasted with the solemn reality that those who reject Christ will experience separation from God’s presence. Charles reminded the congregation that believers already possess eternal life, a reality that will be magnified in the coming age, and closed with a prayer of gratitude for the confidence Christ provides over death.

1 Peter 1:3-9

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
