Christians in Culture - Wednesday Night Lesson

Lesson 4 of 4 February 13, 2020

The class began by recapping last week’s conversation about dinosaurs and the importance of respectful dialogue on creation versus evolution, emphasizing that Christians should educate themselves and avoid turning discussions into arguments. Clint then shifted focus to a contemporary cultural phenomenon: the rapid increase of individuals, especially Millennials and Gen Z, who mark their religious affiliation as "none." He presented recent survey data showing that about 26% of Americans now identify with no religion, a rise of roughly 40% over the past decade. Drawing on Scripture, the teacher highlighted the Christian call to be prepared to give a reasoned answer for the hope we have (1 Peter 3:15), to renew our minds rather than conform to worldly trends (Romans 12:2), and to go forth making disciples (Matthew 28:19‑20). The class discussed possible reasons behind the rise of "none," such as cultural skepticism, perceived irrelevance of the church, and the desire for personal autonomy. Participants were encouraged to engage gently, stay informed, and model Christ‑like love as a witness in a pluralistic society.
