Sunday Evening Sermons - June 28th

Lesson 45 of 50 June 29, 2020

The class began with a reflection on Jeremiah’s laments and the steadfast love of God, setting the stage for a deeper discussion on walking by faith. Pastor Sutton guided listeners through Hebrews chapter 11, emphasizing the exemplary lives of faithful saints, and then zeroed in on Enoch, a unique biblical figure who "walked with God" and never experienced death because God took him. By comparing Genesis 5:24 and Hebrews 11:5‑6, the teacher highlighted three core aspects of Enoch’s faith: seeking God, pleasing Him, and walking with Him. The lesson connected these ancient truths to New Testament promises, citing 1 Corinthians 15:50‑52 about the transformation of believers at Christ’s return, Romans 8:24‑25 on hope in what is unseen, and 2 Timothy 4:8 regarding the crown of righteousness. Practical steps were offered, urging the congregation to seek God earnestly as taught in Matthew 6:33 and Matthew 7:7‑11, and to live each day in expectancy of the coming kingdom. The central message affirmed that a life lived by faith, like Enoch’s, positions believers for the ultimate reward of eternal fellowship with God.

Hebrews 11:5-6

By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God took him up. For he obtained the witness that he was pleasing to God, and without faith it is impossible to please him. For he who comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.

Genesis 5:24

Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him.
