Good Heart Good Life- Shelby Krider

Lesson 6 of 13 May 9, 2022

The class opened with a call to recognize that genuine, lasting contentment is not found in the world’s fleeting comforts but in a relationship with the Creator. Shelby Krider explained that while creation displays God’s greatness, it is not meant for worship or ultimate satisfaction. By focusing on devotion, love, and fidelity to God, believers can cultivate a contented heart that clears the way for gratitude. Moving into gratitude, Shelby highlighted the biblical triad of rejoicing, continual prayer, and thankfulness found in 1 Thessalonians 5:16‑18. She taught that rejoicing is an act of worship, prayer is God’s invitation to share our joys and sorrows, and gratitude should persist even in hardship, drawing on Proverbs 15:15 and the promise of heaven. The class examined how God records our tears (Psalm 56) and faithfully answers prayers (Matthew 7:7), urging participants to ask God for all needs, as Paul instructed in Philippians 4:6. The session concluded with a discussion prompt about what we might hesitate to ask God for, reinforcing the lesson that a grateful, content heart aligns us with God’s will.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
