One Anther

Lesson 8 of 12 June 3, 2024

The class began with Teacher Richard Sutton sharing recent personal experiences before moving into a study of Romans chapter 14. He highlighted that the passage, especially verse 19, calls believers to pursue peace and edify one another amidst potentially contentious issues such as food choices, observance of days, and personal convictions. By reading verses 1 through 9, the teacher demonstrated how Paul urges acceptance of the weak in faith and restraint from judgment, focusing instead on building each other up. Sutton then connected the biblical principle to everyday life, asking participants to recall individuals who have encouraged or discouraged them. He illustrated the positive impact of mentors, teachers, and family members who edify, contrasting it with discouraging attitudes exemplified by a Charlie Brown sketch. The central message reinforced that true Christian fellowship thrives when we prioritize encouragement, respect differing convictions, and seek unity, fulfilling the scriptural mandate to “build up one another" for the glory of Christ.

Romans 14:19

So then let us pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another.
