If you have seen me, you have seen the father

Lesson 3 of 8 July 25, 2019

The class began with a warm welcome, urging the congregation to count their blessings and practice gratitude. After a brief prayer, the teacher introduced the quarter’s focus on personal encounters of Jesus, emphasizing the need for determination and strong faith to follow Him. The central teaching examined Luke 17:11‑19, where ten lepers—one a Samaritan—approached Jesus for mercy. Jesus instructed them to present themselves to the priests, and as they went, they were healed. Only the Samaritan returned to thank Jesus, prompting a lesson on thankfulness and faith. The teacher provided historical context about Samaritans and referenced Matthew 10’s instruction to avoid Samaritan towns, highlighting Jesus’ radical compassion that broke cultural boundaries. The class concluded with applications encouraging optimism, gratitude, and a steadfast commitment to emulate Christ’s loving attitude toward all people.

Luke 17:11-19

While Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem, he was going through the area between Samaria and Galilee. As he came into a small town, 10 men who had a skin disease met him there. That would be leprosy, my friends. They did not come close to Jesus, but called to him, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. When Jesus saw the men, he said, go and show yourselves to the priests, and as you go, your healing will be evident. And as they went, they were cleansed. When one of them saw that he was healed, he turned back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet in gratitude. Jesus said to him, ‘Rise and go; your faith has healed you.’ The man went away, glorifying God.

Matthew 10:5

Do not go to the Gentiles, and do not enter the town of the Samaritans.
