Pop Quiz

Lesson 26 of 36 October 4, 2021

The class began with the teacher reminding everyone of an upcoming Lectureship and encouraging them to promote it on Facebook. He then set the tone by announcing a pop‑quiz, using the familiar classroom anxiety to segue into a deeper spiritual examination. He compared different quiz formats—true/false, multiple‑choice, essays—to illustrate how God’s Word tests us, noting that essays require knowing the core points rather than filling pages with filler. Richard highlighted Paul’s challenge to the Corinthian church in 2 Corinthians 13, where Paul demanded the believers examine themselves. He then moved to 1 Corinthians 13, emphasizing verses 2 and 5, and showing how Paul turned the questioning back onto the believers, urging them to ask, “Am I in the faith? Am I in Christ?” The teacher explained that this self‑test is essentially a yes‑or‑no assessment that should lead to changed conduct. He wrapped the lesson with an illustration of a wagon train using back‑fires and linked it to the parable of the drag net, reminding the class that the ultimate verdict—eternal life or judgment—depends on our honest self‑evaluation and reliance on Christ’s sacrifice.

2 Corinthians 13:5

Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?

Matthew 13:47-50

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was cast into the sea and gathered a catch of good and bad. When it was full, they drew it to shore. Then they sat down, and the good were put into containers, but the bad were thrown away. So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace. There they will cry and grind their teeth.
