A New Life

Lesson 43 of 53 November 1, 2021

In the October 31 2021 class, the teacher opened with warm greetings and several congregation announcements, including a forthcoming Congregational Day of Dreaming on November 13 and a Mission Sunday on November 14 featuring interviews with missionaries from Cameroon, France, Ukraine, and Guatemala. After the announcements, the lesson turned to the theme of "A New Life," encouraging participants to consider changes they desire in themselves—ranging from physical habits to deeper relational issues like narcissism. Using Ephesians 4:17‑24 as the primary text, the teacher explained that Paul describes the believer’s transition from the old, worldly way of life to a renewed existence in Christ, a process that begins at conversion but unfolds gradually as the Holy Spirit reshapes character. He stressed that this transformation is not instant perfection but a continual, Spirit‑guided evolution that distinguishes Christians from the surrounding culture. The class concluded by urging members to engage actively in the church’s vision‑casting event and to support global missions, reinforcing that personal renewal and communal service go hand‑in hand. The central message was clear: embracing the new life in Christ involves both inward repentance and outward growth, leading to a distinct, purposeful walk with Jesus.

Ephesians 4:17-24

Now this I say, and testify in the Lord, that you walk no longer as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their heart; who having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality, for the practice of every kind of uncleanness with greediness. But you have not so learned Christ; rather, if you have heard Him, and have been taught in Him, as the truth is in Jesus, that you put off, concerning the former way of life, the old man, who is corrupted according to the deceitful desires; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man, who has been created according to God, in righteousness and true holiness.
