Praise the Lord…No Matter What

Lesson 4 of 5 June 7, 2021

The class opened with Dean Miller, a widower and seasoned minister, encouraging participants to reflect on when they naturally say “Praise the Lord.” Attendees identified joyful milestones such as the birth of a child, safe returns from war, and being cancer‑free, noting that praise is often reserved for positive events. The teacher then shifted focus, asking whether the same exclamation could be offered during hardship, prompting a conversation about life’s unfairness, cruelty, and deep pain. Turning to Scripture, the group read Acts 16, beginning with verse 11 and moving to Lydia’s household (Acts 16:14‑15) and the slave girl with a spirit of divination (Acts 16:16). These passages illustrated early believers praising God in both ordinary and extraordinary circumstances, reinforcing the central message: true worship does not depend on circumstance but on a steadfast trust in the Lord. The class concluded with practical encouragement to cultivate a habit of praise in every season, trusting that God’s presence remains constant. Throughout, participants were invited to share openly, knowing their words would be repeated for those watching the live stream. The session emphasized interaction, authentic testimony, and a biblical foundation for praising God no matter what, aligning with the mission of Linder Road Church of Christ.

Acts 16:16-18

And it happened as we went to prayer that a certain slave girl, having a spirit of divination, met us, who brought her masters much gain by divination. This girl followed Paul and us, crying out, "These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation." And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ, depart from her." And he came out immediately. And the girl's masters saw that the hope of their gain was gone, and they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to the rulers.
