Knowing Jesus
Teachers
Lesson Summary
Richard Sutton began the class by sharing moving personal experiences of loss and the unexpected gifts of empathy and companionship he received from his church family. He asked the congregation to consider the most valuable gift they had ever received, guiding them through reflections on monetary value, need‑based usefulness, and the purity of the giver’s motive. Using everyday analogies, he illustrated how the heart behind a gift determines its true worth. Sutton then turned the focus toward the greatest gift of all—Jesus Christ. Citing Galatians 4:4, he explained that God, in the fullness of time, sent His Son as the perfect gift that meets every need, carries immeasurable value, and is rooted in divine love. He encouraged listeners to view themselves as channels of God’s love, offering gifts of presence, compassion, and encouragement to others. The class concluded with an invitation to live out this truth within the community of Linder Road Church of Christ. Throughout, the teaching emphasized that while human gifts vary, only God’s gift of Christ surpasses all expectations, calling believers to mirror that generosity in their own lives.
