Proverbs

Lesson 4 of 10 October 28, 2021

The class picked up where the previous week left off, examining the latter half of Proverbs 6:16‑19, which lists seven abominations that the Lord detests. After briefly reviewing the first three sins—proud looks, lying tongues, and shedding innocent blood—the teacher focused on a heart that devises wicked plans, swift feet to evil, false witnesses, and those who sow discord. Throughout the lesson, the instructor used well‑known biblical narratives to illustrate these sins, beginning with Ahab and Jezebel’s plot to acquire Naboth’s vineyard (1 Kings 21), showing how their wicked scheming led to divine judgment. The story of Joseph’s brothers (Genesis 50:20) demonstrated how deceit can bring remorse yet also be turned by God for good. The class also recalled the bravery of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (Daniel 3) when faced with a false king’s demand for idol worship. The central message emphasized that God abhors schemes rooted in evil and that believers can avoid such traps by fixing their eyes on God’s kingdom, serving others, and allowing His justice to prevail. The teacher concluded by urging participants to spend more time helping others and less time devising selfish plans, reminding them that God’s righteousness will ultimately expose and punish wickedness. The lesson ended with a call to apply these truths in daily life, trusting that God will guide and protect those who seek Him.

Proverbs 6:16-19

There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: 16 proud eyes, a lying tongue, 17 hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked plans, 19 feet that are swift in running to evil, 20 a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.
