Guest Speaker - Sunday Evening Sermon - Paul Myers

Lesson 6 of 10 November 5, 2018

In the Sunday evening session, guest speaker Paul Myers presented a sermon centered on the theme of living the divine dream, using Psalm 126 as the primary backdrop. He compared modern images of worldly success with the biblical narrative of Israel’s oppression, exile, and ultimate restoration, emphasizing that true fulfillment comes from God’s promises rather than material wealth. By referencing Isaiah 2’s vision of nations streaming to Zion and Romans 5:5’s declaration that hope does not disappoint, Paul highlighted the continuity of God’s redemptive plan. He urged the congregation to recognize their own journey from captivity to freedom, noting that obedience and faith are essential to maintain the blessings of restoration. While acknowledging personal struggles with obedience, Paul encouraged the audience to celebrate the assurance that God can restore even those who have strayed. The overarching message affirmed that, through Christ, believers can indeed “live the dream,” experiencing joy, hope, and the fulfillment of prophetic promises. The sermon concluded with a call to action: to rejoice in God’s restorative work, cling to the hope described in Scripture, and pursue a life marked by gratitude and obedience, trusting that the divine dream is both real and attainable.

Psalm 126:1-6

When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. We were glad, we were rejoicing; we were even singing for joy. Then the nations said, "The Lord has done great things for them." The Lord has done great things for us; we are glad. Restore our fortunes, O Lord, like streams in the Negev. Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy. He who goes out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.
