Knowing Jesus
Teachers
Lesson Summary
In the February 12, 2023 class, the teacher opened by welcoming guests and sharing recent church blessings, then introduced the series theme, “Knowing Jesus.” He explained that the goal was not merely to know facts about Christ but to develop an intimate relationship with Him. Using John 7, he showed how even during Jesus’s ministry there was widespread confusion and debate about His identity, citing verses 12 and 40 that record both belief and skepticism among the crowds. He then turned to John 4:25‑26, describing the Samaritan woman’s encounter with Jesus, her recognition of Him as the Messiah, and the resulting testimony that led many in Samaria to believe. The teacher connected these passages to the broader biblical portrait of Jesus as Emmanuel—God with us—fully divine and fully human. He referenced John the Baptist’s proclamation (John 1:29) and the birth announcements in Matthew 1:21 and Luke 2:11 to underscore Jesus’s purpose as the Savior who takes away sin. Concluding, he urged the congregation to move beyond casual or irreverent uses of Jesus’s name and to let Scripture guide a deeper, respectful relationship with the Messiah.
