Sunday PM Lesson

Lesson 13 of 38 May 6, 2024

In the Sunday evening class, Clint Davison used the cultural phenomenon of college homecoming to illustrate the biblical concept of returning to God. He began by describing the excitement and community spirit of a university walk‑around, then shifted to the spiritual need for a divine home. He argued that humanity was created in God’s image (Genesis 1:26‑27) for a relational purpose, and that all creation exists for God (Colossians 1:16). Citing John 3:16, John 1:12, and 1 Timothy 2:4, he affirmed that God desires everyone to become His children and to be saved. Davison contrasted the questions of whether a non‑believer can ever “come home” and what it looks like for a believer to return. He explained that those without a relationship with Jesus are like lost sheep (Matthew 9:36) and need the invitation to find a home in Christ. Turning to Luke 15, he unpacked the prodigal son (verses 20, 31‑32) and the other lost‑thing parables, showing how the Father’s eager welcome models God’s readiness to receive both the repentant sinner and the faithful child. The class concluded with an encouragement to celebrate every spiritual homecoming and to share God’s invitation through outreach like the House‑to‑House magazine.
