How to be good

Lesson 1 of 17 December 4, 2016

The class began with a vivid illustration comparing the excitement of a gripping novel or a binge‑watched series to the way we often try to jump ahead in life, seeking the ultimate outcome without appreciating the journey. Teacher introduced the theme “living life backwards,” linking the concept to humanity’s tendency to prioritize personal gain and ego, which leads to sinful behavior. He traced the root of evil through biblical perspectives—Adam’s blame on the woman, Eve’s blame on the serpent—and modern sociological studies, emphasizing that sin is not solely caused by external circumstances like poverty but by the choices individuals make. Scripture was highlighted with John 1:1‑3, underscoring that Jesus, the Word, existed from the beginning and is the source of all creation, setting the foundation for the upcoming series “Jesus Story in Reverse.” The teacher explained that the series will move backward from the present condition of humanity, through the cross, Christ’s ministry, and finally to His birth, helping believers understand the purpose and joy of the Gospel. The class concluded with a call to examine personal motives and to align one’s life with God’s design rather than walking backward in selfishness.

John 1:1-3

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being by him, and apart from him nothing came into being that has come into being.
