How to Make the Right Choice

Lesson 13 of 17 August 27, 2017

The teacher opened the class by sharing recent experiences at the Polishing the Pulpit conference and then transitioned to the central theme of making right choices in the Christian walk. He reminded the congregation that every decision—from the moment we rise to the moment we rest—reflects our free moral agency and carries consequences, both physical and spiritual. Using biblical passages such as Hebrews 12:2, Hebrews 3:1, Philippians 3:10‑21, Deuteronomy 30:19‑20, and Joshua 24:15, he emphasized the necessity of fixing our eyes, thoughts, and minds on Christ and choosing life, blessings, and service to the Lord. Illustrative stories of athletes like La Voo Alzado and Mickey Mantle, alongside the example of baseball owner Bill Veeck, showed how poor choices lead to regret, while aligning choices with God’s will results in lasting fulfillment. The teacher concluded that when we intentionally honor God in every decision, we will never regret our choices, and urged the congregation to apply these principles daily, confident that our ultimate citizenship is in heaven.

Deuteronomy 30:19

I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today: I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and love the Lord your God, walk in his ways, and hold fast to him.
