Our Identity in Christ

Lesson 10 of 10 September 26, 2024

The class closed the twelve‑week series on identity in Christ by reviewing the biblical foundations that define the believer. Steve Zeller highlighted James 1:22‑25 as the “perfect law of liberty,” illustrating how internalizing God’s Word transforms our self‑image. He then traced the scriptural portrait of believers as living stones (1 Peter 2:4‑6) and as a people whose veil is removed in Christ (2 Corinthians 3). Throughout, Zeller emphasized that these truths are immutable, providing a steadfast identity that does not waver with circumstances. He explained each identity label—new creation, chosen, child of God, righteous, saint, temple of the Holy Spirit, free, ambassador, and more‑than‑conqueror—showing how they equip Christians to face life’s storms. By remembering and embracing these identifiers, believers can live victoriously, bearing fruit for God’s kingdom while preparing for the heavenly city they already belong to. The message concluded with a call to implant these truths in heart and mind, trusting that they will sustain a fruitful, joyous Christian walk.

James 1:22-25

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural reflection in a mirror; for he observes himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of person he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, not being a hearer who forgets but a doer who works, this man will be blessed in what he does.

1 Peter 2:4-6

Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected by men, but chosen by God and precious. You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For this is contained in Scripture: 'Behold, I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious cornerstone, and he who believes in Him will not be dismayed.'
