LIVING UNDER GOD'S GRACE

Lesson 3 of 16 October 19, 2024

The class opened with a worshipful declaration of redemption before transitioning to an introduction of guest speaker Corey Sawyers. The teacher explained that the lesson would focus on Romans chapter 6, aiming to grasp biblical grace as Paul presented it. He provided a brief overview of Romans, describing how Paul addressed division between Jewish and Gentile believers, highlighted humanity’s universal sinfulness, and emphasized that salvation originates from God’s grace rather than human works. During the study, the teacher walked through Paul’s argument that grace is not a license to continue sinning. He illustrated the misconception with a humorous Andy Griffith Show anecdote, then examined Romans 5:8‑11 and Romans 6:1‑2 to show that believers are called to die to sin and live in righteousness. The session underscored that faith, justification, and righteousness are gifts of grace, urging the congregation to lay their burdens at the table of mercy and live under God’s transformative love.

Romans 6:1-11

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
