S-M-A’s Courage

Lesson 3 of 6 August 7, 2023

The class centered on Daniel chapter 3, using the example of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to teach teen listeners about courage and steadfast faith when confronted with severe trials. The teacher narrated the king’s decree to worship a golden statue, the youths’ resolute refusal, and their confident declaration that even if God did not deliver them, they would still remain faithful. The discussion highlighted their trust in God’s power, the difference between expecting a miracle and surrendering to God’s will, and the spectacular rescue from the fiery furnace, underscoring that true faith is not contingent on outcomes but on relationship with God. The session connected these ancient lessons to modern teen challenges such as returning to school and everyday pressures, urging students to rely on each other and to stand firm in their convictions. A concluding prayer asked for strength, reliance on God and community, and the ability to reflect the boldness of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in daily life.

Daniel 3:16-18

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego said to him, 'O king, we do not need to answer you in this matter. If our God, whom we serve, is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire, He will deliver us. But even if He does not, you, O king, should know that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.'
