Act Like A Godly Man - Lesson 2

Lesson 2 of 4 April 18, 2024

The class opened with a challenge to older men to mentor younger believers, emphasizing the biblical responsibility to “prepare the next generation.” Using the backdrop of the annual "Journey of Christian Manhood" hike, the teacher illustrated how memorizing Scripture fuels spiritual growth. The main teaching centered on 1 Timothy 6, particularly verses 11‑13, where Paul commands Timothy, "O man of God, flee these things" and to pursue virtues such as righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, and gentleness. The instructor explained that "flee" implies urgent, decisive action away from sin, especially the love of money and materialism, which he identified as a major threat to a godly man's heart. The discussion highlighted that a godly man must balance provision with generosity, referencing 1 Tim 6:8, 6:17. The teacher also connected the call to holiness with the example of Timothy’s early scriptural grounding (2 Tim 1 & 3), urging participants to emulate a life of purpose, protection, and provision. The session concluded with practical steps for participants to evaluate what they need to flee and what they must actively pursue, reinforcing the overarching mission to raise up godly leaders for the church and community.

1 Timothy 6:11-12

But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
