Highway to Heaven

Lesson Summary
In the recent "Highway to Heaven" class, Richard Sutton revisited the series' central theme that our life's journey begins where we are and ends either in heaven or destruction. He referenced Matthew 28:18 to affirm Christ’s authority, and Hebrews 1:1‑2 to establish that God now speaks through His Son. The teacher emphasized the first spiritual mile marker—loving God wholly—as the starting point, drawing on Jesus’ answer to the greatest commandment. He then identified belief in Jesus as the next essential marker, citing John 8:24 and John 14:6, and reinforced it with several of Jesus’ "I am" declarations (bread of life, light of the world, good shepherd, resurrection and the life). Sutton illustrated the next mile marker—repentance—using a real‑life analogy of Highway 1’s landslide, showing that ignoring a clear warning leads to peril, while turning around represents true repentance. The lesson concluded by urging participants to recognize repentance as a biblical theme and to apply it daily in their spiritual walk toward the heavenly destination.
