Linder Road church of Christ Youth Rally with Dustin McKrickard

Lesson 1 of 7 April 7, 2018

During the youth rally, Dustin McKrickard welcomed participants with a fun seating‑shuffle exercise, emphasizing the value of connecting with new friends. He introduced the theme of bravery, grounding it in 2 Timothy 1:7, and explained that God has not given a spirit of fear but of power, love, and self‑control. Dustin linked this assurance to the common fears of public speaking and death, encouraging the students that obedience to God eliminates the need to fear. The teaching then turned to the question, “How can I have eternal life?” using the rich young ruler’s encounter with Jesus in Matthew 19:16‑22 as the central illustration. Dustin highlighted the ruler’s earnest yet incomplete devotion, noting the importance of asking honest, courageous questions about faith. He also reminded the youth of Ecclesiastes 12:1 about remembering the Creator in the days of youth and cited 2 Timothy 3:15 to stress that Scripture equips believers for salvation. Throughout, he challenged the group to replace reliance on Google with reliance on God’s Word, urging them to confront difficult life questions with biblical confidence.

2 Timothy 1:7

God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
