Looking for Peace_ - Sunday morning sermon

Lesson 5 of 10 February 16, 2020

The class opened with a warm welcome and a brief update on church ministries before turning to the Scripture passage John 20:18‑21. The teacher described the scene of the disciples gathered behind locked doors, fearful after Jesus’ crucifixion, and highlighted Jesus’ appearance, showing His wounds and greeting them with, “Peace be with you.” He explained that this peace is not a fantasy of everything going right, but a divine calm that comes through Christ’s presence and the purpose He gives to His followers. By comparing modern ways people chase peace—coffee shops, social media, outdoor activities—the sermon emphasized that lasting peace is found only in Jesus, who can enter our locked rooms of fear and doubt. The teacher then connected the biblical model to the congregation’s life, urging listeners to consider where they seek peace and to recognize that true peace is linked to the mission Jesus entrusts to each believer. He concluded that Christ’s promise provides both purpose and the power to fulfill it, inviting the class to experience that peace today. The session ended with announcements about upcoming retreats, youth leadership training, and a call to prayer for missionaries in Cameroon.

John 20:18-21

Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, 'I have seen the Lord,' and that he had said these things to her. On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, 'Peace be with you.' When he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, 'Peace be with you.' As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.
