Building a Bridge to the Harvest

Lesson 7 of 9 August 1, 2019

The teacher began by thanking the congregation for their support after his mother’s passing, describing how he was honored to preach at her funeral and reflecting on the many seasons of her 90‑year life. He then shifted to a lesson about Idaho’s agricultural impact, noting that farming accounts for 20% of the state’s GDP and produces a significant share of the world’s seed supply, especially sweet corn. Using the metaphor of farmers building bridges to markets, he explained that the true purpose of labor is the harvest. Linking this to Scripture, he returned to Matthew 9:35‑38, where Jesus describes the plentiful harvest and the lack of workers. The teacher urged believers to act as ambassadors, caregivers, and servants, building spiritual bridges that lead people to Christ. He emphasized that our service, compassion, and evangelism are meaningful only when they result in the harvest of souls for God’s kingdom. The class concluded with a call to recognize the potential of every “barren plot” in our communities and to labor faithfully for the great harvest ahead.

Matthew 5:13-16

You are the salt of the earth... You are the light of the world... Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

2 Corinthians 5:20

We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors...
