The secrets of the Kingdom

Lesson 31 of 53 August 9, 2021

In the August 8, 2021 class titled “The Secrets of the Kingdom,” Teacher Richard Sutton reviewed the ongoing series on the King and His Kingdom, emphasizing that the Kingdom of God is a present reality manifested in the church. He explained that the Kingdom is a society where God’s will is perfectly done, echoing William Barclay’s definition, and introduced a sub‑series focused on the kingdom parables as a key to unlocking its secrets. Sutton highlighted the parables found primarily in Matthew 13, especially verses 44‑46, which compare the Kingdom to a hidden treasure and a pearl of great value. He used modern analogies—garage‑sale hunting, metal‑detecting, and a historic coin discovery—to illustrate the joy and total commitment required to obtain the Kingdom. The lesson also touched on other kingdom teachings such as the wheat and tares parable, the spread and growth of the Kingdom, its blessings, and the final separation of believers from non‑believers. The central message urged listeners to recognize the incomparable worth of the Kingdom and to pursue it wholeheartedly, selling all that hinders them to “buy” the field where the treasure lies.
