Book of Galatians- John Mendiola -3_14_2021

Lesson 11 of 13 March 15, 2021

The class began with a brief prayer before the teacher reflected on his preparation experience, admitting that the topic of the fruit of the Spirit turned out to be more challenging than expected due to its depth and breadth. He reminded the congregation of the previous week’s study on the works of the flesh, emphasizing that those practices prevent inheritance of the kingdom of God. Moving forward, he contrasted the plural list of fleshly deeds with the singular yet comprehensive list of the Spirit’s fruit, explaining that believers must exhibit all nine virtues—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self‑control—to truly reflect Christ’s character. Throughout the lesson, the teacher referenced Galatians 5:19‑26, Leviticus 19:18, 2 Peter, and 1 John, underscoring that the fruit is not a mere show but a visible manifestation of inner transformation. He argued that living in the Spirit and bearing this fruit demonstrates belonging to Christ and fulfills God’s law. The class concluded with practical exhortations to pursue these virtues daily, promising that such diligence will safeguard believers from stumbling and secure their place in the eternal kingdom.

Galatians 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

2 Peter 1:5-7

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.
