DRAWING NEAR TO THE THRONE OF GRACE - Jeremy Myers

Lesson 5 of 16 October 19, 2024

The class, taught by Jeremy Myers, examined the biblical call to draw near to the throne of grace as found in Hebrews 4:16. Myers explained that the throne is not a symbol of judgment but of mercy, reflecting God’s character as a gracious Father. He traced the scriptural foundation for viewing Jesus as the ultimate High Priest, referencing Hebrews 5:1‑6, Hebrews 2:17, and Hebrews 9:11‑14, and emphasized that Christ’s incarnation uniquely qualifies Him to intercede for humanity. The teacher highlighted that without a mediator, we would be unable to approach God, but through Christ’s sacrifice, we receive forgiveness and access to divine grace. Myers connected these truths to everyday life, noting how gossip and grudges often replace grace in our relationships, especially among teens. He encouraged listeners to approach God with confidence, remembering that Jesus, as a sinless High Priest, continually offers mercy. The session concluded with a call to live out the grace received, inviting the congregation to experience God’s presence as a loving, gracious King rather than a distant judge.

Hebrews 4:16

Then let us with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in the time of need.
